NOAA Ocean Exploration Hosting AGU24 Town Hall Sessions

During AGU24 , NOAA Ocean Exploration will lead two town hall sessions. All are encouraged to stop by and join the conversation.

Ocean Exploration Partners and Assets: Experiences, Opportunities, and Challenges 
December 10, 2024: 6-7 p.m. EST – 209 A-C (Washington Convention Center)

Join leaders from Schmidt Ocean Institute, Ocean Exploration Trust, OceanX, and NOAA Ocean Exploration for a panel discussion on the successes of and opportunities for communication and collaboration between dedicated ocean exploration vessel operators and the deep-ocean exploration community.

Beyond the Blue: Illuminating the Waters of the Pacific Islands 
December 11, 2024: 6-7 p.m. EST – Salon H (Washington Convention Center)

Learn about Beyond the Blue: Illuminating the Pacific, a multifaceted science campaign designed to raise collective knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of waters in the Pacific Islands region through coordinated mapping and exploration expeditions, data management and sharing, strategic partnerships, and outreach and engagement. During the town hall, panelists will share an overview of the campaign, highlighting the value of cultural perspectives interwoven throughout the campaign, and solicit ideas for broad collaborations and engagement throughout the Pacific Islands region.


Throughout the week, members of NOAA Ocean Exploration and the NOAA Ocean Exploration Cooperative Institute will also participate in a variety of other events, including those highlighted below.

The annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union convenes 5,000+ attendees from 100+ countries each December to share research and connect with friends and colleagues. For AGU24, the meeting returns to Washington, D.C., from December 9 - 13, with the theme “What’s Next for Science.”
